How To Change Default Roku Unit Name for Mirroring Mode
So you have your new Roku device set up and want to mirror your PC, Phone or Tablet to the unit. There are hundreds of tutorials on how to do that.
What is less obvious is how to change the default name that comes up when you are making the connection. Instead of “Roku Device – 166”, I wanted to change mine to “Curran TV”. Because . . . Aesthetics.
If you haven’t created an account at Roku.com, you’ll need to do that first. (Odds are, you already have.)
On your computer:
- Go to https://my.roku.com/index
- Select My Account
- Scroll Down to My linked devices
- Chose the device you want and select Rename
On your device go to:
- SETTINGS –> SYSTEM –> POWER –> RESTART
This will Reboot your TV or other Roku unit.
When the unit reboots it will broadcast the new name you chose. This is especially useful if you have multiple TVs (Restaurant, Night Club, Big House, Hoarding Issues, Etc.)
As a side note, I think this is turned on by default but just in case it isn’t, check:
- SETTINGS –> SYSTEM –> ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS –> DEVICE CONNECT
