Digg is a place for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the web. From the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog, Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by their users. You won’t find editors at Digg — YOU are the editor and decide what gets added or “Dugg.”

How do they do this? Everything on Digg — from news to videos to images — is submitted by people like you. Once something is submitted, other people see it and Digg what they like best. If your submission rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see.

Take a Quick Tour of Digg if you have never used it before. I highly recommend creating an account so the website will remember your custom settings. If you are regular Digg visitor you probably check it every hour and know what’s going on in the virtual as well as the brick-and-mortar world well before your neighbor.

Here is a super-easy way to Tweet on Twitter what you Dugg on Digg.

Twiggit is an automated service that lets your friends on twitter know what articles you digg. Simply visit their website and sign up.

You only need to provide your Digg username, your twitter name and password and an email address.

Once you have done that, everytime you visit Digg and Digg and article, Twiggit will update your Twitter status with a link to the article.

I have already addressed how to update your Facebook status from Twitter, but in the comments I was asked if you could do the opposite – update Twitter from Facebook. Yes You can!

There is a Facebook application called fb2twitter that will automate the process. The application is not fool-proof but it commands a pretty decent user feedback rating. Read up on the user comments if you have any issues.

Here’s another way to do it:

Log into Facebook.

Click this link: http://www.new.facebook.com/minifeed.php?filter=11

You should get a page that looks like this:

On the bottom right-hand side you will see Subscribe to these Stories:

You want to save the address under My Status. That’s the RSS feed information we are going to give to TwitterFeed. So right click on My Status and copy the URL or click My Status and save the URL address from your browser.

Mine looks like this:

Now head over to TwitterFeed and create an account or login (I just used my Google account information to sign in.).

Once signed in to TwitterFeed, create a new feed and you’ll get this screen:

Username and Password? Whatever you use to log into Twitter.

RSS Feed URL? That’s the address we got from Facebook.

Update Frequency? 20 minutes? 60 minutes? How often do you update Facebook?

Prefix each tweet with? Maybe “Via Facebook” or just leave it blank!

Ok Julie, First Step, Log in to your facebook account.

Then, try this link to take you straight to the twitter application. If it has changed or doesn’t work, simply do a search from the facebook search box for” twitter” and choose the tab that says APPLICATION. You should see the twitter application listed like this:

Select VIEW APPLICATION and then from the Twitter application page select GO TO APPLICATION.

You will be asked to ALLOW ACCESS, do so!

Next, you will be asked to log in to your twitter account. Make it so. . . and you should see this:

Select the “Allow Twitter To Update Your Facebook Status” and then you have one more screen to go:

Allow the Status Update and your done! Twitter away with your favorite Twitter program and when you do, your facebook status will be updated.

If you are a Twitter user and and Outlook user, why not combine the two? Personally I find myself using Digsby to look at other people’s tweets on my PC (I’ll post instructions at a later date) and Twittelator on my iPhone – but the Outlook plug-in OutTwit does come in handy for quick messages and archiving. And it’s free.

What can it do?

• Update your Twitter status directly from Outlook.
• Receive your friend updates as Outlook messages.
• Archive, manage and search your tweets the same way you manage your email.
• Track keywords. OutTwit will automatically download ALL tweets matching the keywords you specify, even if you are not following the tweet sender. This feature is perfect for keeping up to date with the the Twitter buzz on your name, brand, interests, etc.
• Assign custom folder and categories to new messages.
• Automatically sort new tweets into per-sender folders.
• Shorten URLs with tinyurl.
• See graphs of your Twitter usage statistics.
• Tweets sent to you (@replies and direct) are marked with high importance, so you can see them at a glance.

How do you do it?

Download OutTwit, Close Outlook, Install Outwit and Restart Outlook. You’ll now see a bar that looks like this:

Hit the dropdown and select OPTIONS. Enter your Twitter username and password.

Ready?

Now SELECT FOLDER -> PERSONAL FOLDERS -> NEW… -> and Name: name a new folder “Inbox Twitter” Like this:

I also changed the “Check For New Messages Every” to 20 minutes instead of 5. Figured I’d take a load off my server. Season to personal taste.

Final steps, In Outlook you have your mail “Favorite Folders” at the top on the left and your “Mail Folders” underneath that. Go to the Inbox Twitter that you just created, right click on it and select Add To Favorites.

Rearrange your favorites folder to taste. Here’s what mine looks like:
