This started off as a family and friends page for family and friends.

I wanted to archive how-to’s and what’s ups here in plain, easy to understand English with concise examples.

I am amazed at how fast the site visitorship is growing and am happy to share my computer and internet knowledge with anyone who asks.

If you have a “How-To” request please fill in the comment form below with as much detail as possible.

I will post the solution and directions as soon as I can get to it and in the meantime, people can respond here as well.

Want to express your thanks? You can buy me a beer or something inexpensive (or expensive!) from my Amazon wish list. Both have links to the right.

    Having problems sending and receiving emails in Outlook 2007, IE10, Win7. The Enter Network Password box pops up incessantly. The server name in that box looks spurious and I can't change it. What should it read (I know my Pop3 incoming and outgoing server names) and how do I change it?

    Hi – I've set up my own Excel using your columns, retitleing them and amending the body email information with almost perfect success – thank you. I have 10 rows here and there where most of the information in the email is missing and I can't work out why (having amended this successfully in all remaining 75 rows. I wonder if you can help me please. Many thanks.

    How can I view multiple Outlook Mailboxes on my smartphone. i.e. we use multiple Mailboxes at work to separate incoming mail for different projects and as we all use smartphones we would like to be able to view the inbox from each Mailbox while in the field so is there a way to access all the mailboxes from the one account on my smartphone. The mailboxes have been added to our Outlook and can be accessed via a laptop or desktop PC but we have not been able to sync all of them up on the smartphone.

    Hello! I have Outlook on my laptop and I have my email set up as an IMAP email address. I have also set up my email on my phone as an IMAP address. But now, my emails don’t show up on my laptop if I read them on my phone first. How can I get Outlook to get my emails or keep my phone from keeping my laptop from getting my emails?

    I have my own email domain for work that I am using. I am using Outlook 2007 and I have an iPhone running iOS7.

    Any help you can provide in getting this fixed or pointing me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated!

    I’ve downloaded several excel school calendars from Vertex with the hopes of incorporating all of the concepts to create my own school calendar, but alas, I crash and burn! I’m at my wits end.

    Could help in creating a school calendar that can allow me to shade calendar events that span several days. Most calendars I’ve found on the Internet either shade events for one day at a time. Others allow for shading multiple days, but of a single color. What I want is for each event to be shaded in it’s own color . Please help. Thanks in advance.

    Recently, I set up a second (standard) User Account on my PC. When I opened Outlook, I saw that my Verizon e-mail account needed to be set up. I’ve tried repeatedly to set it up, using the same information that is entered in Outlook in the Administrator User Account (User, Server, and Logon information). It simply doesn’t work. Am I restricted to one User Account per domain?

    Love your article on inserting a calendar drop-down into an Excel Cell! Thanks so Much! Is there a way to leave the date/calendar field blank if/when not used, or to actually select a blank. I have a form with multiple opportunities for date entry, but not all will be used every time. Those that are not used I’d like to leave blank.

    I have a spreadsheet that I would like to apply your macro to. problem is I have multiple conditions that have to apply before I can send that email.

    Condition 1: Need to check if there is a date in cell x
    Condition 2: Check cell for name and ignore “filed” text in any cell.

    Then populate email based on name verification in Cell X from condition 1.

    please let me know if you can help me

    Dear Team,
    I don’t know anything about VBA or Macros. But I want the excel to send a reminder e mail 30 days prior to the expiry of an item from the list of items. I have googled and found this VBA code. It works fine, but only if I select RUN on the VBA page menu bar. I am not sure whether I have done the complete procedure to set it up. I only pasted the code from internet to the Excel VBA page. I opened the VBA page by right clicking the sheet1 tab and selecting view code.
    I would like the excel to send e mail to the email address(column 9) automatically whenever the expiry date (column 4) is 30 days away and whenever the PC is powered on. Or when the PC is signed in. The PC is always on. I shall upload the file created. Kindly help me to fix it.
    Thanks & Best regards

    I read your post regarding how to link dates in excel to an outlook email. (http://danielcurran.com/outlook/how-to-create-a-reminder-email-for-outlook-email-from-excel/) However I am looking for the dates to go into an Outlook calender as a reminder.

    I work for an engineering company and we have 2 weeks for us to review a contractors proposal I am managing several different projects and to see it pop up on my calender would not only make my life easier but would also allow my bosses to see the progress of these construction projects.

    I can send you the file if you feel that would be helpful.

    Thanks soooo much!

    Hey this is in regards to automatically setting up an email to be sent as a reminder when something is due,

    I am trying to customize the code for example if I want the same message in the body to be sent to al the people rather than making an individual column for this in excel, how do I approach this? As of now when I plug in for message I get the body message also appearing on the same line as the subject line

    For ex. Subject line: Calibration DueHello “Person’s Name”,
    But I would like Hello “name” to appear in body with the rest of the msg….

    ByVal lpFile As String, ByVal lpParameters As String, ByVal lpDirectory As String, _
    ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long

    Sub SendEmail()
    Dim Email As String, Subj As String
    Dim Msg As String, URL As String
    Email = Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 3)

    Subj = “Calibration Due”

    Msg = “”
    Msg = Msg & “Hello ” & Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 1) & “,” & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & “Here is some precanned text before the BODY info in the spreadsheet. ” & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 13) & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & ” And here is some more precanned text in the macro AFTER the Body stuff.”

    ‘Replace spaces with %20 (hex)
    Subj = Application.WorksheetFunction.Substitute(Subj, ” “, “%20″)
    Msg = Application.WorksheetFunction.Substitute(Msg, ” “, “%20”)

    ‘Replace carriage returns with %0D%0A (hex)
    Msg = Application.WorksheetFunction.Substitute(Msg, vbCrLf, “%0D%0A”)

    ‘Create the URL
    URL = “mailto:” & Email & “?subject=” & Subj & “” & Msg

    ‘Execute the URL (start the email client)
    ShellExecute 0&, vbNullString, URL, vbNullString, vbNullString, vbNormalFocus

    ‘Wait two seconds before sending keystrokes
    ‘Application.Wait (Now + TimeValue(“0:00:02”))
    ‘Application.SendKeys “%s”
    End Sub

    Hi Daniel!

    You’re automatic email generator was very helpful, thanks!

    I have a few questions about further options using this macro:

    1. The macro only works when a specific row is selected and the “send” button in the excel sheet is pressed. I would like to send emails automatically every time the file is opened if:
    A. The reminder date has passed
    B. The deadline has passed
    However, I only want to send emails once for each of these occurences, so I would like to automatically mark the “reminder sent?” or “deadline reminder sent?” columns when the emails are sent and for the macro not to sent emails in these cases.

    2. I need to hit “send” in outlook once the email is generated, and would like it to be sent without this step.

    Are these changes possible?

    Thank you very much!

    Thank you for the great explanations!
    I have a question about Excel: on one page there is a list of projects with details in different colums. On the second page there is a project, then down its actions, project then actions and so on. How to make a hyperlink from one page one deal to a deal with actions on the other page? In order when you change the projects or lines, the number of the line on hyperlink, changed automatically?
    it’s quiet a lot of time that I’m straggling on this point!

    I read your “how to” about embedding outlook invites into a office document. My question is somewhat similar, however, I would like to know can you embed the invite/icon into the body of an email announcement rather than attaching the .ics file?

    I am trying to create a spreadsheet for my mums hairdressers. She wants to be able to store appointments of each customer, date, time and be able to have automatic emails sent to each customer as reminders of their appointments a few days in advance. Is this possible if so how can I do it.

    I’m trying to set up email reminders for evaluation due dates to different administrators from an Excel spreadsheet. I downloaded the following excel doc and clicked the send email button:
    Dear Joseph,
    Here is some precanned text before the BODY info in the spreadsheet.
    Joseph next evaluation due 04/01/2017
    And here is some more precanned text in the macro AFTER the Body stuff.

    However I didn’t understand why the lines that contain the words precanned came from and will this always show up?

    I believe I’m having roughly the same issue at IT Gurl, when I try to reopen the file after a few days of no use, the drop down calender(s) turns into a giant red X from which I can’t choose anything. It’s doing this on every page of the worksheet. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? Thanks for any help!

    Hi Daniel,

    I’m trying to add in a few more touches to your older example “Outlook Email from Excel”.

    This is your VBA codes in the excel example.

    Private Declare Function ShellExecute Lib “shell32.dll” _
    Alias “ShellExecuteA” (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lpOperation As String, _
    ByVal lpFile As String, ByVal lpParameters As String, ByVal lpDirectory As String, _
    ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long

    Sub SendEMail()
    Dim Email As String, Subj As String
    Dim Msg As String, URL As String
    Email = Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 10)

    Subj = Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 4)

    Msg = “”
    Msg = Msg & “Dear All ” & Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 1) & “,” & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & “Please be informed that this shipment have been received by: ” & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & Cells(ActiveCell.Row, 13) & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & ” This is an auto-generated email. For enquiries please notify us directly.”

    ‘Replace spaces with %20 (hex)
    Subj = Application.WorksheetFunction.Substitute(Subj, ” “, “%20″)
    Msg = Application.WorksheetFunction.Substitute(Msg, ” “, “%20”)

    ‘Replace carriage returns with %0D%0A (hex)
    Msg = Application.WorksheetFunction.Substitute(Msg, vbCrLf, “%0D%0A”)

    ‘Create the URL
    URL = “mailto:” & Email & “?subject=” & Subj & “&body=” & Msg

    ‘Execute the URL (start the email client)
    ShellExecute 0&, vbNullString, URL, vbNullString, vbNullString, vbNormalFocus

    ‘Wait two seconds before sending keystrokes
    ‘Application.Wait (Now + TimeValue(“0:00:02”))
    ‘Application.SendKeys “%s”
    End Sub

    The 2 things I would like to add are:
    1. My own email signature and,
    2. Any or all files from a folder path specified from the value in the corresponding column as email attachments.

    Thanks a lot for the help in advance.

    Hello Mr. Curran, I am using your example for sending out email reminders using Excel. Thanks to your clear instructions, I can send out emails with a specific message to someone on my excel workbook. My issue is as follows: I have a personal Outlook account and an Outlook account for the research study I manage. When I send out the emails, the sender name shows up as mine- what I need is the change the sender to the research study outlook account (not my personal inbox). Would you be very kind and give me an idea of what I need to do to switch the accounts? I hope I haven’t confused you and thank you for your help (and this useful site!).
